Innovation: Next-Generation Web Mapping Services
Increased access to Web Mapping Systems (WMS) technology, like Google Maps APIs, by developers and everyday users is providing new opportunities for GIS data to be viewed and analysed on web maps.
This innovative web application demonstrates next-generation web mapping services developed by Telopea Group. After signing in users can access these innovations, use our novel trip planner and subscribe to our APIs, infrastructure projects and supporting analysis.
The web app's server and databases are dedicated to hosting new GIS classes and associated data. These GIS entities are defined by the database tables and can can be viewed on current popular WMS like Google Maps, Here and Bing Maps.
Our innovative app extends the Google Maps WMS and is designed to help develop understanding about these new GIS objects, their potential and to assist the web mapping community to better incorporate these abstract data constructs into GIS and WMS.
A Whitepaper
A whitepaper has been written to introduce these data constructs. The whitepaper’s purpose is to:
• Identify the existence of unreal objects in GIS
• Reveal key characteristics to help define unreal objects in GIS
• Propose a classification system to accommodate real and unreal objects in GIS
• Illustrate the potential of unreal objects in GIS
• Advocate for an ISO standard to classify real and unreal objects in GIS
• Advocate for ISO standards for unreal objects commonly encountered in GIS and WMS
• Develop a sub-classification of unreal objects to maximise innovation
• Provide tools to enable unreal objects to be made more accessible in GIS and WMS
• Demonstrate the potential for unreal objects to deliver better quality outcomes for society
• Stimulate discussion upon unreal objects in GIS
Online Transparency Tools
The app continues to be developed to provide as a suite of online transparency tools to enable governments, corporations and interest groups to better design, plan, inform, manage, co-ordinate and deliver infrastructure and services.
